"Dona nobis pacem" on the air

Classical KUSC 91.5 broadcast Gibson's Dona nobis pacem/Grant Us Peace on several different programs in early December, including Dennis Bartel's morning program, Jim Svejda's evening show, and at the end of an arts feature about the Los Angeles Children's Chorus.



  

"El Cantico del Alba" @ Mission San Luis Obispo

On Saturday, June 28, 2008, the New World Baroque Orchestra presented their annual Festival of the Bells at the Mission of San Luis Obispo. Conductor John Warren ended the program with Paul Gibson's simple arrangement of El Cantico del Alba, a folk song/prayer from the mission period. Click for more information about the Festival.



  

"It Was Not Death" included in ECS' winter releases

Paul Gibson's setting of Emily Dickinson's stunning poem of hopelessness has been released by E.C. Schirmer in their 2008 Winter packet. PDF of the score (including audio) is available now online.

The Winter Concert by the Los Angeles Children's Chorus included Gibson's Dona nobis pacem/Grant Us Peace on December 9, 2007, at Pasadena Presbyterian Church.



  

"Ubi caritas" in translation

ECS Publishing recently made available as a pre-publication edition (#7166) a new setting of Ubi caritas by Stanford composer Giancarlo Aquilanti, which uses Paul Gibson's English translation of the ancient Latin prayer as a guide for the singers. Gibson originally prepared the translation for his own earlier setting of the beloved text (edition #5178).



  

The Calls of the Owl now available

Gibson's The Calls of the Owl, which received two superb performances in April by Miwako Watanabe (violin), Gary Bovyer (clarinet), David Speltz (cello), and Marcia Dickstein (harp), is available from FATROCK Ink, #076-2202.



  

Debussy Trio performed Gibson's Ritual Dances of the Divine Trinity

The Debussy Trio performed Gibson's Ritual Dances of the Divine Trinity (FatRock Ink #076-2201) at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on June 17. This free concert was broadcast the following Wednesday (6/20) on KCSN 88.5 FM, the new home of the "Sundays Live" series, hosted by Dennis Bade. The Debussy Trio has recently recorded Ritual Dances for their next CD.



  

Gibson Music at ACF/LA

On October 21, 2007, Paul Gibson presented examples of his music at the Composers' Salon sponsored by American Composers Forum/Los Angeles. Featured performers included soprano Elin Carlson, pianist Alan Steinberger, and the Debussy Trio. Gibson also played a recording of his Song of Songs setting, My Sister, My Bride.



  

Gibson's "Dona nobis pacem" at ACDA

On February 28, 2008, the Los Angeles Children's Chorus gave an impeccable and well-received performance at the Western Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Anaheim. On LACC's program, which took place at St. Boniface Catholic Church, was Paul Gibson's Dona nobis pacem/Grant Us Peace (Alliance AMP0638). Attendance at this year's convention was reported to have set a record for a Western Division Convention, with nearly 1000 registered attendees.

The Los Angeles Children's Chorus performed Gibson's Dona nobis pacem / Grant Us Peace (Alliance #AMP 0368) at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel as part of their Keynote Concert for the Chorus America national conference in Los Angeles.

Now available in pre-publication editions from ECS Publishing (800-777-1919): Gibson's setting of Emily Dickinson's It Was Not Death, catalog #6691, and his It Fell Upon the High Midnight for cello and chorus (catalog #6728), a winner of the 2005 VocalEssence/American Composers Forum Christmas Carol Competition.



  

Premiere at Ambassador Auditorium

As part of the Los Angeles Children's Chorus' annual Spring Concert on June 7, 2008 at Ambassador Auditorium, the Intermediate Choir gave the premiere of Paul Gibson's arrangement of the old French song L'amour de moy (for two-part chorus, oboe, and piano), conducted by Mandy Brigham who had commissioned the setting.
